This statement is true. Gametes are haploid. Meiosis is a reduction division where haploid cells are produced from diploid cells. Most of the gamete producing plants on the course are haploid e.g. Spirogyra and the gametophytes of the fern and the flowering plant. Meiosis is used to produce the gametophytes. The gametes are produced by mitosis.
Fucus is an exception. It produces gametes by meiosis.
